I've been an active participant in this forum for several years, and while we've often discussed how to gain privacy in our gardens using evergreen shrubs, I've noticed a tendency to always go to the same old suggestions: boxwood, holly, laurel, yew-the classics everyone knows about. But isn't it time we dig a little deeper and challenge ourselves to find fresh alternatives?
I'm curious if anyone has experimented with lesser-known evergreen varieties that offer the same density and year-round coverage but perhaps with added benefits, like pollinator attraction, unique aesthetics, or enhanced resilience to pests and diseases. How about using combinations that might provide biodiversity along with privacy?
Wouldn't it also be worth discussing whether diversifying our plant choices could contribute to the local ecosystem in a way the classics just don't? What are your thoughts and experiences with less conventional picks, and how have they held up in reasonably fluctuating climates? I'm eager to hear about innovative solutions you may have come across.
