Hey, I've got a couple of doublefile viburnums in my zone 6 garden, and they've been rockstars for about 8 years now. They do best with morning sun and afternoon shade-full sun can scorch the leaves if your summers get brutal, but I've pushed one into more exposure with extra watering and it flowered like crazy. As for the berries, yeah, they draw tons of birds (cedar waxwings love 'em), but the mess is minimal compared to hollies; just rake under it in fall. What's your soil like? They hate wet feet, so good drainage is key for that first planting. Good luck!
