I've recently started gardening and am considering planting a southern magnolia tree in my yard. I love the idea of having a tree with such beautiful flowers and evergreen leaves. However, I'm not entirely sure about the best conditions for growing it or how much space it would need as it matures.
Does anyone have experience with growing southern magnolia trees? I'm especially interested in knowing:
- What soil type and pH is best for them?
- How much sunlight do they need?
- What are the water requirements for these trees?
- How fast do they grow and how large do they typically get?
- Are there any common pests or diseases I should be aware of?
Any tips or advice on successfully planting and maintaining a southern magnolia would be greatly appreciated!
